Gearing Up for Halloween

Last week we could feel the excitement for Halloween starting to build.  One day during circle time, we asked each child if they wanted to have a turn to say what their costume is.  They all wanted to tell us.  Some even told us what each member of their family is going to be!  When the children are so excited about something, it can be fun to use circle time as an opportunity for a group discussion.   Group discussions help them develop language skills by speaking in front of their peers, waiting their turn, and listening.  It also builds community as they learn about each other and comment on similarities and differences.

One of our art projects was decorating pumpkins with paint and glitter.

It was great seeing so many of you at Back to School Night!  Here is a picture of the self-portraits just in case you did not get a chance to see them.  Each child took care with certain details which makes each one unique.  Thank you for taking time out of your evening to come visit our class!

And now we rest up for the “real” Halloween week!
