December fun!

This week we worked a lot on fine motor skills and hand eye coordination with holiday and snowflake themed activities! In the sensory table, we worked hard to pick up holiday ornaments with a spoon and transfer them from one bucket to another. The children had to concentrate and use hand eye coordination to scoop up the ornaments and carry them to dump into the other bucket. We placed jingle bells on our magnet tile creations and talked about how and why the jingle bells stuck to the magnet tiles. We also worked more on hand eye coordination by finger painting on a pre-drawn line to make snowflakes. At the easel, the children made sticker collages and worked more on fine motor skills by taking the stickers off of the sheet and placing them onto the paper.

During circle time, we had some fun with holiday lights. We read the book “Light the Lights” about different kinds of holiday lights. We also learned a poem about twinkling lights and got to take turns wearing fun twinkle light glasses and necklaces.

We did some building on the rug with both castle blocks and duplo blocks. The children helped make a tower that was taller than them! We counted the number of blocks and used them as a non-standard unit of measurement to describe how tall they are. They were approximately 45 duplo blocks tall!

The children painted snowflakes at the easel and made our own holiday lights using the children’s handprints!
