Snowman fun
It was a great week in the Green classroom! We played in the snow outside on the playground. The children played in the snowy sand box with trucks and shovels. Some of the children were fascinated with the foot prints their boots made in the snow. We walked around and observed the foot prints and talked about how animals make prints in the snow as well.
For one of our art projects, we painted snowmen and falling snow using cups and q-tips. We added hat, scarf, carrot and button stickers to make it look more like a snowman.
They also built snowmen using play dough and loose parts. Using loose parts inspires creativity and imagination.
In the sensory table, the children filled containers decorated as snowmen with cotton balls to make them white like the snow. They used their fine motors skills to pick the cotton balls up with chopsticks and tongs.
Under the loft, the children engaged in pretend play giving doctor check ups to our baby dolls and putting them to bed.
The children explored with snowman puzzles and a snowman stacking toy. Up on the loft, the children searched in a look and find book to find certain objects hidden in the pages.
They also built felt snowmen at the easel. During circle time, we both sang and read “Frosty the Snowman.” We also read a story about a melting snowman, then sang “I’m a little snowman” where we melted just like the one in the story.
On the rug, the children played with a large wooden garage with various cars.
On Tuesday, we had music where we sang a song about snowflakes. We used blue scarves as the snowflakes and threw them up in the air to have them float down like falling snow.
