It was so nice to see our friends after break and play again. It was nice to see that everyone was able to jump back into the routine.

This week we talked about Spring. I asked everyone how do you know when it’s spring? What do you hear, what do you see? Everyone joined in and gave a couple examples; birds, flowers, rain, bunnies, and eggs.

We read some silly books this week with a spring theme. The book a boy and his bunny, is filled with silly rhymes and pictures. The thought of a boy wearing a bunny on his head got everyone’s attention, how crazy is that! The story showed all the different things the boy could do with a bunny on his head, maybe it wasn’t so crazy? It ended with his sister showing up with an alligator on her head, now that’s crazy! We also read the book We Are Growing. The book is about blades of grass growing; as the individual blades grow, they all discover something that is unique about themself. One is the curlest, another the straightest, sharpest, etc. Every blade had a “est” except one. The blade was worried because it didn’t know what made it special until a lawn mower comes along and cuts the grass. FInally! The blade knows what it is, it is the neatest because it cleans up it’s clippings. In The Odd Egg, a duck that finds an unusual looking egg. He loves the egg; it is special because it is unique. The other animals make fun of duck’s egg. They watch their egglings hatch, still not being very nice to duck. One-by-one the eggs hatch. An owl! A duck! Flamingo, etc. The animals are still teasing the duck when, creak crack, out pops an alligator! And SNAP!

We sang Five Little Ducks this week, which is a count down song. One-by-one the ducklings swim away from Mom and at the end, all the ducklings come back. The song is on Youtube.

over the hills and far away. 

Mommy duck went 

quack quack quack

and only 4 little ducks came back.

We also read poems every day to celebrate national poetry month; they were sent home at the beginning of the week. I hope you enjoyed them; special thank you to Beth Levine for organizing!

We did several watercolor paintings this week and a bubble wrap print; they are going to “grow” into flowers by Mother’s day. We experimented using a balloon to use for painting; it was a lot of fun to bounce the ball on the paper. The goal was to create an earth day painting, but it took a life on of its own and was more interpretive. The kids also got to paint tulips with forks; as anything with preschool they lean more towards flowers in the abstract.
