Birds and Goats

Birds and goats are an unlikely combination but that’s what we had this week. In the Orange Classroom birds were everywhere. I have so many bird activities that I can rotate them in and out during the week to keep it fresh.

Every day we listened to our ‘singing’ birds and tried to recall what kind of birds they are.

We learned the unique songs of some of the birds in this book. When the matching button on the bottom is pressed, the song can be heard.

The tree on our bulletin board is filled with all kinds of birds and nests. Some of these projects required the children to use scissors, and they worked very hard to cut the shapes.

Our book bucket was filled with books about birds.

On Thursday and Friday I brought out my small keyboard for the first time. The children sat around a large table while I played familiar children’s songs. The children enjoyed this immensely and their singing voices were the loudest I have heard all year.

On Thursday, Farmer Sandy from Chip-In Farm in Bedford brought her 2-week old baby goats for all the children at MWS to enjoy. Each class had a designated time in which they were able to go into the fenced in area to play with the goats. Some children dove right in and ran around with the goats, picking them up. It was also fun to sit or lay on the grass letting the goats climb on top. Some children were more hesitant, staying on the grass, but keeping a safe distance. And some were held in teachers’ arms and slowly became comfortable being in the area. If you’ve never been to Chip-In Farm, I highly recommend a visit. It’s a treat for all. http://www.chipinfarm.com
