Art Projects

Penguins

This was a two day project:

Monday we used bubble wrap to make prints. We painted bubble wrap with white paint, pressing a piece of blue paper on top, and using the flat of our hands to rub the surface. The paper was peeled back revealing a ‘snowy” background.

Tuesday, the kids cut out the shape of their penguin. Once they had created the body, they glued on fins, feet, eyes, and a beak. They were given a sample as reference, but it was up to them to locate and place the body parts.

Polar Bear

In addition to Monday’s bubble wrap printing, each child sat down with a teacher and practice cutting. We saved those squares to use on their polar bear project.

Thursday they made polar bears from their cut out squares. They were given an outline of a bear and asked to cover it in white squares. In order to fit the squares within the bear outline, they occasionally needed to move around pieces which helps build their ability to spatial planning skills. The polar bear was given a nose and eyes.

Penguin spray art

KIds got to work on the easel spraying a piece of black paper with a white paint that had a penguin shape attached. Kids were asked to spray around the penguin’s body, leaving an outline of a penguin once it was peeled off

Bottle Snowflakes

Kids experimented making “snowflakes” using the bottom of different size water bottles. They discovered that they had to push the bottom flush to the paper to create a snowflake.

Sensory Table

Monday was bubbles, winter rubber duckies, penguin bath toys, blue aquarium rocks, and scoops

Tuesday and Thursday was kinex sand with some snowmen and different sand toys
