Dental Health

In Circle we…

  • Discussed dental health; what foods are good for our teeth and bad, how many times a day to brush our teeth, and what it’s like going to the dentist

*During our discussion about dental health, some friends volunteered that they eat some of the foods which can cause tooth decay. We talked about how its ok to have those foods once in awhile, but if we do, it’s very important to brush our teeth

  • Read books featuring teeth

  • Got our sillies out with some movement breaks

Art Projects

Original Works:

The kids finished their original work project based on a story we read in class called, “Papa, please bring me the moon” by: Eric Carle.

Before break, they worked on a night sky using blue and purple watercolors with a salt resist on top.

Monday they finished their art work by creating ladders from paper and making a tissue paper moon for their sky. Hope you enjoy!

Shaving Cream Tooth: In this project, the kids were given a yellow tooth, a tooth brush, and a mixture of shaving cream and glue. The goal was to brush their tooth until it was white and “clean.” The kids were encouraged to spread the mixture across the page covering as much of the surface as possible.

Doctor: Students played doctor by drawing boo-boos with red crayon on their patient. Once they were satisfied with the amount of boo-boos, they peeled and applied band aids.

Easel Fun: Toothbrushes at the easel with paint! PLus dental Dot art Page

Sensory Fun

A visit from the tooth fairy; white beans, rice, fairies, bendable tooth figures, cups, and ice cube trays.

A special visit from a Dentist

We were lucky this week to have Katie McCafferty, Emmett’s mom and local dentist, come in and talk about dental health. We played a fun game with Dr. McCafferty; she asked us if a particular food was healthy for our teeth or not healthy. Every student took turns putting either a healthy tooth or a decaying tooth, depending on the food, onto a large mouth.

Dr. McCafferty discussed the importance of brushing out teeth, how many times we should brush our teeth, and the necessity of having an adult help us brush our teeth. A special thank you to Katie McCafferty for the wonderful visit as well as Coppe and Sears Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics for gift bags.
