Healthy Teeth Week

We spent the week talking about healthy teeth, including foods to keep them healthy, brushing morning and night, and visits to the dentist. We even had a pediatric dentist, Dr. Katie McCafferty (an MWS parent) talk to all the children about taking care of their teeth. Dr. McCafferty had a very large model of a mouth and equally large toothbrush. The children each had a turn to practice brushing the large teeth.

This big mouth made us smile all week.

I hope you enjoyed all of the teeth art projects as much as the children enjoyed making them. We even had a tooth join us during Circle Time. You’ll have to ask your child to tell you how to sing to a tooth. Here are some of the play choices that were available this week:

I showed the children how to assemble the mouth with teeth that we had for snack on Wednesday. After the demonstration, the children were given a plate with ‘teeth’, 2 apple slices, and a dip cup with Wow! Butter (a soy based spread). It was fun to watch some children spread the Wow! Butter and carefully place the teeth on the apple while some children ate everything, but separately.

The children have created a piece of art that will go home next week with the Original Works Art Fundraiser information. The children were particularly excited about making a picture that goes along nicely with a book we read this week. In this story, a Papa uses a ladder to go to the moon for his daughter. You will understand what I mean when the Original Works packet goes home.
