Counting Seeds

Hello Red Class Families,

Over the past two weeks, we have been learning about leaves, squirrels, pumpkins, and skeletons. We went on a nature walk last week and picked up some leaves for a leaf art project. We ripped paper and made a squirrel collage. We did some pumpkin art at the easel and painted pumpkins for Open House. With the help of Mrs. Stoler, we made some pumpkin cookies as well. As Halloween approaches, we put together a skeleton floor puzzle and read books about skeletons.

With our classroom pumpkin, we cut the top off and put it in our sensory table. Everyone had a chance to feel what the inside of a pumpkin feels like. Some children were nervous about putting their hand inside the pumpkin, while other children loved to feel how stringy and slimy it was. After a few days of open play, I cut the pumpkin into segments. We counted the seeds in groups of ten and learned that our giant pumpkins had 465 seeds!

I introduced two new concepts this week: Give Me Five and a lunch visual schedule. Before we read a book, we go over the Give Me Five. It helps everyone remain in the green zone as we listen to the teacher read a book on the rug. The lunch visual schedule is there to help everyone know the expectations during lunch.

Here are some additional classroom photos:

With the nice weather we have been getting, we have spent a fair amount of time on the playground and side patio.

Until next time…

Mrs. Chen
