Hearts!

The Green class got in the holiday spirit of Valentines Day. In preschool, we celebrate and understand this holiday as being kind to friends. We exchanged valentines and baked sugar cookies together. We read books about making homemade valentines and handing valentines out to friends. The children made heart themed arts and crafts. They made symmetry art on a paper heart cut out by scooping paint onto one side, folding the paper, squishing the paint then unfolding it to reveal the design. Some friends observed that the design resembled a butterfly. The children also decorated a picture of a tree with heart leaves. They used their fine motor skills to peel the paper off to reveal the adhesive to be able to stick it to the paper. For the final project, we made heart balloon Valentine’s Day cards.

The children explored in the sensory table by “making cupcakes” with rice, pom poms, heart confetti, fake flower petals and more. The children filled plastic heart shaped containers with kinetic sand and observed how the container shaped the sand into a heart. A few of the children observed that the resulting heart shape felt very smooth. They also made heart shapes using cookie cutters.

During circle time, we sang “Five Little Heart” and “Skid-a-Ma-Rink.” We also read a poem together. The children took turns leading the poem by pointing the the words and pictures with our “helping hand".”

On the rug, the children played together with a dinosaur mountain. They pretended the volcano was erupting.

Under the loft, the children engaged in pretend play by taking care of our stuffed puppies. They gave them check ups. The puppies needed eye drops and some medicine.

Up on the loft, the children built towers with duplo blocks.
