In 1961, Lexington had a large population of young children, no public kindergarten, and only two nursery schools. Members of the Lexington Methodist Church wanted to sponsor a kindergarten program in its brand-new education wing that would offer a high-quality, affordable education to as many children as possible. Methodist Weekday School opened September 13, 1962 as a private kindergarten program that later included a preschool program to meet the needs of the community. When Lexington Public Schools eventually offered a kindergarten program to residents, MWS dropped its private kindergarten program and continued as a preschool for children ages 2 years 9 months to kindergarten.

In June 2017, the Lexington United Methodist Church ceased to operate as a worshiping congregation, so MWS became incorporated in Massachusetts as “My Weekday School, Inc.” Today, MWS continues its original mission to provide the best early childhood education at an affordable price. We hold fast to our school’s original guiding principles and educational philosophy.

We’re proud of our long history. We’re also proud to say we’ve changed over the years, as the needs of families have changed. Even so, MWS has stayed close to its founding principles: meeting each child as an individual, helping that child grow and learn in an exciting school environment, and providing a happy and joyful experience every morning for the children in our care.
