Brrr, It’s Cold Outside

It was a wonderful adventure to go to the playground on Tuesday with snow falling and every surface covered with snow. But the rest of the week was too cold and/or too icy to venture outside. When we aren’t able to go to the playground, we find other things to do inside to occupy the time. One of the days we had a mixed up day, going to the Big Room early for an extended time. One day everyone spent time at the tables with their individual Duplo bucket building a structure. Sometimes we had extended classroom playtime. It’s easy to tell when the children are ready to move onto another activity and we get our cues from their actions. Children do very well in a structured environment, but we always leave room for flexibility. This picture was taken early on Tuesday morning before anyone trampled the snow.

There were a variety of activities to choose from in the classroom this week. There isn’t a picture of our Circle Time visitor because I forgot to take its picture; it was a friendly bison/buffalo.

On Thursday we listened to a cassette tape of the story “The Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear.” Some children love this book and would be happy to hear it every day. Some children are tentative about it because they worry about the Big Hungry Bear, who actually never appears in the story. When the mouse tries to hide the strawberry with a disguise, I put on my matching disguise. Some children are surprised and find it to be funny, but this week, one child kept saying “Take it off, Take it off.” I took it off and everyone could see it was still ME. Clearly, someone does not like this disguise!

The children made some projects this week for the MWS Art Show on January 27. I hope to see you there.
