First Day of School

We had a great first day of school today! The children settled in nicely very quickly. There were some short-lived tears, but that ended quickly. We had a busy and happy morning and the children enjoyed all the activities.

There are always some children who go home and are very chatty about the morning, others less so and others say nothing. Here are some ideas about the morning that may help your child tell you about their time at school:

  • What color apron did Mrs. Levine wear? orange

  • How did you know what chair to sit in? My picture was on the table

  • Did you use the bathroom at school? Did you wash your hands after the bathroom? yes and yes

  • What story did Mrs. Levine read today outside? Clifford the Big Red Dog

  • What friend came out of the bag after the story? Clifford (hand puppet)

  • Did you wash your hands before snack? Did you open your napkin? yes and yes

  • What did you have for snack? Cheez-its, but we never said the name, so orange crackers is an appropriate answer

  • What did you do after snack? cleaned up snack, sat back at the table, and Mrs. Levine read and showed things from her special bucket.

  • What story did Mrs. Levine read after snack? Germs are not for sharing

  • What did you see from Mrs. Levine’s special bucket? blue trash can that Donald Duck lives in; yellow trash can that Daisy Duck lives in, and a blue hopping spider

  • What did you do in the Big Room? possibilities: climb on the up-down-go-through, play ball, twirl on the sit-n-spins

We finished the day at the playground – a favorite place.

On Visiting Day, I mentioned to many parents that we have a plan for how to manage the morning with all the Covid precautions in place. I also said I may have to change things on Day 2. Well, I made a discovery today: there are too many distractions when I read the story outside. Birds flying, planes going overhead, traffic & noise, leaves blowing in the trees to name a few. I will definitely be rethinking that part of the plan!

I hope this helps for you to get a sense of the morning. Thank you for entrusting your children to MWS.
