Random Week

It was destined to happen. An April snowstorm giving us a snow day after so little snow all winter. I never expected to wake up on Thursday to learn that there was no school. But I did take advantage of it by turning off the alarm clock and going back to sleep.

We did not have a theme for the week, instead enjoying random art projects and activity choices. On Thursday, the children placed tape on paper creating a design, painted over the entire page, and removed the tape. I’m sure you’ll agree that they are beautiful to look at.

Some of the other play choices this week are below. Look at the last picture with the magnetic letters. I was told that “Mrs. Levine” is spelled out there. I guess it’s like one of those jumbled letter charts where you have to find the words within the big block of letters.

Has your child told you about “assigned seating?” Most days we are doing assigned seating for Circle Time. When we clean up around 10:00am, the children call out “Are we doing assigned seating?” as if it’s the most exciting thing happening. Of course, the children don’t realize that what is actually happening is that I am choosing their seats to keep order on the rug. Without assigned seating, some children rush to get their favored location and get upset if someone else sits there first. Some children always sit against a cabinet, not using their core muscles to sit up tall. Some children can be very distracted by their neighbor. With assigned seating, every day is different and “you get what you get without getting upset.” But I like it when the children simply think that assigned seating is very exciting.
