Holidays are here

In circle we…

Practiced rhyming and colors using the gingerbread poem. After a few repetitions, the kids began to call out the colors to the rhymes

Matched gingerbread men; ten pairs of matching gingerbread men were put on the carpet and each student took turns finding a match

Played the house game; the kids have to guess what colored house the snowman is in. The game starts by chanting, “Snowman, snowman, come out of your house. Are you in the ____ house?” We go around the circle taking turns guessing until he is found. Great for memory recall and color reinforcement

Practiced the order our clothes go on when we get dressed for the playground using a felt visual aide

Art Projects

Over the last several weeks we worked hard finishing presents and assembling our gingerbread house! As you know, construction takes time.

Lollipops

Students finished their lollipops by adding their names using a name card as a reference. We are working on recognizing our names, so this was a great way to practice both letter recognition and sequential order of letters in names.

Wrapping gifts and making cards

Gum Drops

The gum drops were made using watercolor and salt. After painting, kids sprinkled salt on top and watched as the salt pushed the pigment away creating a beautiful pattern.

Gingerbread Friends

Kids painted large gingerbread silhouettes and were given various materials to decorated them the next day.

Candy Canes

This project focused on practicing pattern recognition/sequencing. Students were given red and white squares and asked to recreate the pattern of a candy cane using a sample.

Other fun happenings…..

Happy Birthday Ella

The parachute came out in music class!!!!! The nutcracker themed fun continued as we pretended to hide under Ms. Candycane’s skirt( this is from the play) lifting the parachute up and dashing underneath her “skirt.”
