Mother’s Day Mash Up
Happy Mother’s day to all the moms!
This week the kids were hard at work crafting up a storm to make their gifts for Mother’s day. They worked on two projects that were done in several stages over the course of the week. I hope you enjoyed them!
The poem this week was Flowers, I sent it home on Monday, by the end of the week the kids were reading it out loud. Most of our classes poems follow a fairly formulaic format giving the kids a chance to read out loud in a group; building confidence in their voice and the success of them “reading.”
This week’s theme was a bit of a mash up;. we focused on Mother’s day and frogs. I do not associate Moms with frogs! I swear, It just worked out that way. But there were many handsome kiddos on picture day, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them is prince charming.
On Monday, I introduced the class to the song 5 Green Speckled Frogs. I brought in a “log” and a few frogs to circle time, as the song counted down, one leaped into the pond and so-on until there were none. Our class seems to be really enjoying songs counting down; they have even called me out when I get the wrong number. I can’t fool them!
The pictures below are of the kids sensory bins this week and the frog water play they got to enjoy!
The books this week were; Is Your Mama A Llama?, I’m A Frog, Frog On A Log, and Down By The Bay. The last two books were rhyming books and quite silly. I told the kids their homework was to think about different things to see “down by the bay” that rhymed. We will revisit it next week and practice the coming up with words that rhythm.
I want to give a special thank you to all the parents that organized teacher’s appreciation week and bringing in all the yummies. We all greatly appreciated it; it was fabulous. I will miss it; I am not sure I will go back to and packaged lunch. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Next week we will be talking about insects and butterflies!
In case you think I forgot; we will celebrate our summer birthdays soon! Finn, Maddie, and Norah will be celebrated as summer birthday buddies after Memorial day. I will send out an email as we get closer to the date.
Have a good week,
Teddie Rappaport
