A Dog, A Donut, & Apple Juice
From the delight in the children, it was clear that they are all happy to be back in school after our Spring break. Unfortunately, I had a bout of recurring sciatica pain, severely restricting my activities during the break. Fortunately, I was much better by the time we came back to school. The children look forward to meeting our new Circle Time friend each week and have enjoyed having a fox joining us each day this week. And how does one sing the Hello song to a fox? I had no idea so I thought quickly and came up with “Yelp, Yelp, Fox, etc.” One day this week when we sang our Hello song to Mittens, the cat, I forgot that she does not know English and finished with “I’m glad you’re here today” instead of “Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow.” The children stopped me with a loud “NO” and I realized my error. I can’t get anything passed these children.
There were some Free Play activities in the classroom this week that the children had never seen. Earlier in the year, because of COVID restrictions, we did not have a play kitchen. Any items, such as pretend food, may result in the children putting items in their mouths, so it was avoided. However, Kathy Reiss was able to get items such as cans or boxes of pretend food with labels, rather than, for example, pretend bread, french fries, pieces of fruit/vegetables. We have plates and pots for the children to pretend to pour the food and they use their imaginations to cook and serve each other. It was a big hit! The rug had pirate ships with which to play and the children were very busy with them, particularly the little treasure chests of gold.
I want to personally thank the Parents Committee for putting the first ever MWS Story Walk together. I read the book during Circle Time multiple times and all of the children and their teachers enjoyed walking around the building, seeing the pages of the book and looking for the accompanying props. As an added bonus, on Thursday and Friday the children had donuts and apple juice for snack.
