In-Between Time

We’re in the days in-between Thanksgiving and our Christmas/Winter break. As mentioned in the green MWS newsletter, your children have spent some time making something special for their families. I don’t know if any child has ‘spilled the beans’ and told you about it, but it will go home sometime next week. You can decide with your child whether to save it to open another day or open it right away.

We had the opportunity to make some simple process art pieces. Painting with things other than brushes gives the children a different way to spread and/or combine the colors. They liked coming in each day and looking at the object to be used.

It is always interesting to watch the children when something either new or has not been out for a long time appears in the classroom. One day this week, I put 3 small doll houses on a table with many Peppa Pig figures and assorted furniture. The children swarmed to it like bees to a flower. Almost all the children surrounded the table, resulting in small squabbles about who stands where and who gets which Peppa. But once the novelty wore off, the children dispersed to other areas to play. On the next day with the same toy, no swarming occurred. The same thing happened a few days earlier when the Brio train track was set up on a table and another day when a ‘car’ rug with many cars was spread out on the rug: swarming at the beginning of the morning. There are some things that are very predictable about 3-year olds but also, every day, we see some things that surprise us.
