Harvest Season

This week we fit a lot of activities into a short week. Colds and fevers are expected for children in preschool and our class is no exception. Even the teachers get sick. I tried very hard to get to school on Thursday. It took 1 1/2 hours for me to get up and get dressed, then crawled fully-dressed back into bed. I slept for 8 hours during course of the day. Sometimes our bodies tell us exactly what it needs.

The children enjoyed making scarecrows to scare away the crows before they eat the corn in the field. Our field has two kinds of corn and carrots with the crows flying high above.

Here are some of the table activities the children enjoyed.

Beans and trucks in the sensory table.

This friendly scarecrow was our Circle Time visitor this week. He played an important role when we sang this song about the crows.

The Orange Class is grateful to the Parents’ Committee for putting together the Story Walk that we enjoyed this week. We read the story in class and talked about different ways to read a book, such as, read the words, read the pictures, listen to a recording of the story, or walk and read at the same time. It was fun to ‘walk and read’ on the story walk. We were able to enjoy the story walk on Monday and Wednesday. On Monday we had snack immediately following the story walk. In keeping with the story, we served leaves to the children. Needless to say, they quickly told us they didn’t want to have leaves for snack.
