Thanksgiving

We are counting the days till Thanksgiving. Actually, I’m not sure about the children but I am because of all the preparations I must do before hosting family and friends at my home. The children are enjoying making turkey themed projects along with all the other activities in the classroom.

What is special about this trash can? It’s special because it is new. Your children notice every change in the classroom. On Tuesday, this new trash can was next to the sink. It is hard to believe how long it took the children to wash their hands because everyone had to talk about the trash can before washing. Is it new? Where is the old one? Why is this here? Where did you get it? Is the old one coming back?

Who would’ve thought that a new trash can could upset the routine of the morning so much?

Look at the feathers on this turkey. Each feather has little snips on the sides made with scissors. Your children worked hard this week practicing their cutting skills. It takes a lot of control to make the little snips. We are lucky to have such a colorful turkey hanging up in our classroom.

Mrs. Wada has introduced the children to rhythm sticks during our Tuesday Music Class. On Thursday, I brought them to Circle Time. The children did a wonderful job listening to the words of the Hap Palmer song “Tap Your Sticks” and following along with the instructions. We will continue to use them and learn more songs.

The children made delicious pumpkin pies this week that have gone home. Every time I told them they are to be eaten on Thanksgiving, I was told “No, they are paper and paint and glue.” I wonder what your child would say if you served them their school pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving.

Our Circle Time turkey family is below. From left to right, they are named Turkey #1, Turkey #2, Turkey #3. We had a lot of fun as children and many teachers took the ‘quiz’ to see if they remember the names. I would point to them and say ‘Who’s this?’ and wait for the answer. It was very exciting every time a teacher entered our room and the children would watch the quiz happen. Lots of laughter and clapping ensued and everyone passed the quiz. Your child may enjoy taking the quiz as you point to the turkeys in the picture.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and all of the teachers in the Orange Class are thankful to have your children with us.
