Rainbow Fish

Rainbow Fish week is always a favorite. MWS has many stories in which Rainbow Fish and his friends appear. Our book bucket was filled with all kind of fish and ocean stories for the children to enjoy.

There was a variety of fish toys, puzzles and figurines on the tables all week. In the picture on the right you can see the house with many colored doors that lock/unlock. This is a favorite toy so I keep if fresh by changing the animals that are behind the doors. This week different kinds of sea animals were used.

Our friends this week who came to Circle Time were Rainbow Fish and his friend Nemo. The children know that fish can’t understand our language, so we sang our Hello Song in the way that is appropriate for fish. Ask your child how to sing to Rainbow Fish and Nemo (hint: Glub, Glub Rainbow Fish). The book “Rainbow Fish A, B, C” looks like a simple book. It can be read using the traditional A, B, C song, turning the pages as the singing moves thru the alphabet. But, oh, we had such problems. My fingers kept skipping pages so when the children were expecting the next letter, the page would show a letter further along in the alphabet. Each time we had to start at the beginning. Finally, on Wednesday, Mrs. Dotivala was able to sing and flip the pages in the correct order and on Friday, Mrs. Wiryaman was able to do it. It seems that I was the only one with the problem. These simple actions have the children laughing over and over again, and I am so grateful that they do not tire of my tricks. You may get an interesting story if you ask your child what happened when I read the Rainbow Fish A, B, C book.

Every day the children drink water with their snack. When they finish their water and ask for more, Mrs. Dotivala has been coming around with her magic water jug. The children request what they would like to drink and she pours them their desired drink. Some of the drinks the children have been requesting are hot coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate (with marshmallows), and milk. I’m sure there will be many more requests as the days go by.

Teacher updates: The Covid vaccine is beginning to reach the teachers in the Orange Classroom. Of the four of us, one has had both shots, one has had the first shot, and I am scheduled to get it in two weeks. We are very glad to reach this milestone.

I, unfortunately, have had a toothache for a week and saw my dentist and endodontist this week. I am scheduled for a root canal next Friday and hope the pain doesn’t get any more severe. I’m counting down the days till I am pain-free again. It’s all I think about when I am home. I’m so busy with the children during school that I do not dwell on it. Your children have helped me manage this. Now they have another week to keep me occupied, preventing me from thinking about my toothache.
