Snowmen

This week our small but mighty class grew and became a medium and mighty class. We are still missing some of our classmates, but our numbers are getting closer to our full enrollment. In preparation for tomorrow’s storm, we made snowmen and snowy scenes at our art table this week. Our bulletin boards celebrate our weather.

On Monday and Tuesday, we read a book called “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats. On Wednesday, we made a project based on the story. The children had a sample of the project and also the page from the book that we were recreating. The page from the book is displayed on the bulletin board, and you are able to see one way to take an artist’s picture and interpret it for preschool. After talking about the story and its character often, the children felt connected to Peter, the boy in the red snowsuit.

During the week, the children had a variety of toys to play with. Here’s a gallery of some of them.

Last but not least, our Circle Time visitors were a big hit. Olaf came to visit us. But not any Olaf; we had a small Olaf (Olaf 1) and a large, talking Olaf (Olaf 2). Olaf 2 has not aged very well and had very little to say. Even a change of batteries did not improve his vocabulary. But what he said and did had the children enthralled. He blinked his eyes, turned his head to look at all of the children, and said “I missed you”, along with another phrase. It was fun for the teachers to watch the children call out “He looked at me”, and “He missed me”.
