Happy New Year!
It was so nice to be back at school after December vacation. The children jumped right back into the routine and were so happy to see each other. Of course, January brings the possibility of snow, so we used that as our theme for stories and projects. Here we are building a snowflake with pattern blocks; coloring a New Year sign; and playing with a winter themed sensory tray. (I was told these penguins are body surfing.)
We read The Mitten Tree by Candace Christiansen. It tells the story of a lonely old woman who knits mittens for children who do not have any. She places them on a tree in her yard where they can come and get them. After discussing themes of kindness and giving to others, we made our own mitten tree.
Another book we read is Waiting for Winter by Sebastian Meschenmoser. It tells the story of a group of animals who are desperate to experience the first snowfall of the season - something the children in the Red Class could definitely relate to! I am thrilled that Mother Nature cooperated with a snowstorm on Friday. I am looking forward to hearing all about their snow day!
