Creating Classroom Community

The first weeks of school are critical for building class community and establishing a sense of belonging.  One way to do this is to read books that promote inclusivity.  This week we read All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold and Suzanne Kaufman.  We talked about how we all have similarities and differences, yet each of us is a special part of the Red Class.  Each morning we also sing a song where we say each child’s name and welcome them to school.  We count how many of us are at school each day and how all together we make up the Red Class.

Each of us belongs in The Red Class!
