Lots of Squirrels

On Monday we were still singing a Halloween song that seemed to have gotten inside the children’s heads. All during the morning, someone would be playing and start singing this song, with other nearby children joining in. In case your child was singing this at home, here are all the words.

There were squirrels everywhere in the Orange Classroom this week. We had books, lacing, projects, friends, and figurines every day.

We had many Circle Time visitors this week. To find out their names, you’ll need to ask your child. When the squirrels were hungry, the children got to feed an acorn to whichever squirrel they chose. One day, we gave the children acorns for snack, but they straightened out the teachers and told us that squirrels eat acorns, they wanted people food, choosing the goldfish instead.

Do you know the song about Gray Squirrel?

Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel, Swish you bushy tail.

Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel, Swish you bushy tail.

Wrinkle up your funny nose, Hide an acorn in your toes.

Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel, Swish you bushy tail.

We had a lot of fun singing and swishing our bushy tails.

Did your child tell you that we had a special visiting teacher at MWS to teach us about science on Thursday? Her name is Teacher Jane, and if you notice a resemblance to Mrs. Gillis it’s because Jane is her sister visiting from Ireland. Mrs. Gillis joined us so we got to listen to two people speaking with their Irish lilts. Jane teaches science to young children and the children were very attentive to her. She did multiple experiments with a balloon, water, jugs, and a little mouse. Jane taught the children that when you study science, it means you are asking questions. And each of her experiments involved a lot of questions.
