Hello and welcome families to the green class! The preschool classes typically spend their whole morning together with a lead teacher and 1 to 2 teaching assistants. They begin with an hour of free choice time in the classroom: playing with toys & games, building & sensory materials, and exploring the dramatic play area. During this first hour, they also create a directed art project that allows them to creatively represent an aspect of the theme the class is exploring that week, and open-ended art activities are also available. During this part of the morning, the teachers are facilitators of the children’s play, encouraging them to broaden their exploration of materials and building language by tying vocabulary to their actions. The teachers also lead a circle time where they read a book, learn poems, and sing songs that represent an aspect of the theme the class is exploring that week. After circle time, the class have snack together. There is a short independent book time, then the children line up to go to the Big Room (motor room). Each week there are various rotating gross motor toys and structures in the room along with big wooden blocks, cardboard blocks and balls with small basketball nets that are there weekly. After the big room, we go back to the classroom for another circle time. The children end there day out on the playground if the weather permits it! We have music class on Tuesdays with Ms. Wada which typically takes place during the time usually go to the Big Room.
